Helped a teen find their first real hairstyle

Today, a young client came in unsure about their hair. I suggested a simple layered cut that fit their face shape. They left beaming and even sent a thank you text later. It's moments like these that remind me why I do this. How do you handle first-time clients?

A 14-year-old came in last Tuesday with a picture of a celebrity haircut. We toned it down to suit his school rules. He left fine, but I didn't get a thank you text or anything. It's just a haircut. When handling first timers, I avoid making it a big event. That way, there's less pressure on everyone.

I usually ask first timers to bring a few pictures of styles they like (even if they're all over the place). It gives you a solid starting point to talk about what's actually possible for their hair. That shared visual reference really cuts through the nervousness.

Yeah, my friend brought a meme last time and her haircut was perfect, lol.

Honestly, I just ask them what they hate about their hair first and work from there.
