Unpopular opinion: Our salon's switch to bulk color bottles actually created more trash.
Everyone talks about bulk buying to reduce packaging, but we found the large containers get contaminated and we have to throw out half-used product. The small, single-use tubes we used before meant less waste per client because we used every drop. Now we're tossing big plastic jugs that still have color in them, and it feels worse for the planet.

My old barbershop in Tampa tried the big gallon jugs of shampoo to cut down on plastic. We ended up dumping so much product because the pump would get clogged with dried gel, it was crazy. Felt like we were throwing away more plastic and more money than ever before. The little bottles might look worse, but if you actually finish them, they don't waste as much stuff.

Nobody's talking about the water used to clean those big jugs between colors. If you have to rinse them out to avoid contamination, that's gallons of water wasted per week. Plus, the extra cleaning chemicals going down the drain. So the trash isn't just plastic, it's also all the resources spent trying to keep the system clean. That hidden waste adds up fast.
