My solo hike on the Table Rock trail turned into a group rescue mission
I was about two miles up the trail near Morganton last Tuesday when I found a guy sitting on a rock, his ankle clearly twisted. He said he slipped on some wet leaves about an hour before. I had a basic first aid kit, so I helped him wrap it and we started a slow hobble down. Three other hikers joined us along the way, and we took turns supporting him for the whole three mile walk back to the parking lot. It took us almost four hours total. Has anyone else had to help an injured stranger on a trail, and what do you carry in your pack for emergencies?

Wow, that's a crazy story but good on you for stepping up. What did you use from your kit, just the wrap? I once tried to be a hero and offered my extra water to someone who looked tired, then realized I'd already drunk most of it. My emergency gear is basically a granola bar and a strong sense of regret. I do carry a cheap poncho now though, after getting caught in a downpour.

My emergency kit is just a single band-aid and a lot of hope. That poncho upgrade is a game changer though.
