Hey all, looking to buy my first place here in Houston. Has anyone compared Champions Mortgage and Texas Premier Mortgage? I need a lot of hand-holding, especially with grants. The market in 2026 is still pretty crazy and I want to make sure I pick the right lender.

Reading about needing hand-holding with grants really hits home. When I was buying my first place, the grant paperwork felt like a second job. I spent HOURS on forms and still missed deadlines. Having a lender who guides you through that mess is EVERYTHING. It sounds like you're doing the right thing by asking around first.

I looked at both earlier this year. Texas Premier was okay and they had decent rates, but Champions Mortgage really stood out for first-time buyers. They were way more patient with all my questions.

Yeah, definitely go with Champions. They actually specialize in houston down payment assistance. They helped me secure a state grant that covered almost all my closing costs. Texas Premier didn't even mention that program to me.
