Had a job in a split level last week where I literally moved six plastic totes just to reach the air handler. It's always seasonal stuff or old paint cans. People treat these rooms like a free storage locker and it drives me nuts.

Stone.daniel, your story is exactly why these jobs take forever. All that clutter blocks access and creates fire risks. A clear path to equipment should be a basic rule for every home.

Yeah the "free storage locker" thing is so real. Like @harperp24 said about access, I'm pretty sure some folks think their furnace is just a fancy shelf for old holiday decor. It's wild what people will block for a little extra storage space.

Tell me about it. @harperp24 is right, it's a real safety issue. Saw a water heater once buried under stacks of newspapers and cardboard boxes. Just asking for trouble.
