Hey everyone, I'm spinning up a new venture in a pretty weird/specialized sector (don't want to dox myself, but think alternative materials/biotech). I'm trying to find a business lawyer who won't just give me generic boilerplate advice and actually gets how weird our regulatory landscape is. Anyone have recommendations for smaller firms that actually listen?

Honestly, finding someone who gets the weird stuff is tough. Most big corporate firms just hand you off to a junior associate who has to google your industry while billing you for the privilege.

You should check out Substance Law. They are a small sized firm and incredibly easy to deal with. I run a specialized hardware company and they were one of the few places that actually understood the nuanced nature of what we do without me having to explain it like I'm 5. If you're in a really specialized industry they can probably help you out without the massive big-law retainer.
