My walk in the park showed me a simple trick for leash pulling!
I saw a trainer using a stop-and-go method for leash pulling. It clicked for me, and now my dog walks calmly beside me! Such a big help.

Glad to hear that worked for you. How exactly do you do the stop-and-go method? Do you stop completely when the dog pulls, or just slow down? I've tried similar things with my dog, but he gets confused. What kind of treats or rewards do you use to keep him focused? How long did it take for your dog to catch on?

Seriously, you gotta stop dead in your tracks every single time the leash gets tight. If you just slow down, it's not the same signal at all. I used those stinky salmon training treats because my dog would do anything for them. Tbh, it took a solid three weeks of boring, frustrating walks before he finally clicked. The biggest thing is never moving forward while there's any pressure on his collar, even if you're late.

Whoa, stopping completely is key, but consistency trips people up. Do you stop every single time he pulls, even if you're in a hurry? That's where my neighbor messed up. What rewards have you tried besides treats, like praise or play? My dog responds better to a quick game of tug after a good walk. How's your dog with distractions?

Actually, I'm surprised your dog gets confused, because that usually means you're not doing it the same way every time. You must stop completely every time the dog pulls, without exception. Slowing down just sends mixed signals. I used small treats like cheese bits to keep my dog focused, and it took about two weeks for him to catch on. The key is patience, even when you're in a hurry. Stick with it, and walks will get easier.
