Update: I thought robot baristas were just for show, but a demo changed my mind

I always rolled my eyes at news stories about robot baristas. Then I saw one in person at a tech meetup last Saturday. The bot made my cappuccino faster than any human could. It was consistent too, no mess or wrong orders. The team running it showed data on how it saves money on spills. Now I get why more shops are testing these systems. It's not just a flashy trick, it actually works well.

My clumsy self probably makes more mess than a broken robot barista! I once spilled a whole drink just trying to carry it to a table. The robots might fail sometimes, but at least they're not dropping cups because they got distracted.

Question how cafes handle robot breakdowns in real world use. If it stops working during a morning rush, is there a human ready to jump in? I'm curious if the money saved on spills gets eaten up by repair bills or lost sales when the machine is just sitting there broken. The data from a demo is one thing, but a year of daily service is totally different.

At my local cafe, the robot broke down twice.

Yeah, that robot breaking down twice thing really hits home. It shows how these high tech fixes can be just as faulty as humans, maybe even more frustrating when they stop working. Cafes spend all that money on robots to be efficient, but then you get delays and repair costs that mess up the whole system. It kinda makes you wonder if the old way with people behind the counter wasn't so bad after all. We might be trading one set of problems for another without really solving anything.
