Rant: My camping trip in the desert destroyed my skincare groove
I went camping in Arizona for four days last week. The hot, dry wind and dust made my skin tight and itchy all over. I packed my moisturizer, but it felt like putting water on sand. Coming home, my face is red and rough, and it's taking forever to calm down.

Oh my god, the DESERT saw your skincare routine and took it as a personal CHALLENGE. It's like the wind and dust were a mean little team trying to undo years of careful moisturizing in one weekend. Your face probably felt betrayed by the very concept of vacation. I bet your regular lotion looked at that dry heat and just gave up immediately. Welcome back to civilization, where the air doesn't actively hate your pores!

Ugh, my face is still tight and confused three days later.

Patricia, you nailed it! The desert is basically a skincare villain in disguise. My face revolted after a weekend in Nevada, with my usual lotion giving up instantly. The wind felt like it was stealing moisture right out of my skin. Returning to normal humidity was a total relief for my confused pores. That kind of dry air really does have a personal grudge against skincare.

People forget that desert sun does more than just dry out skin. UV rays team up with the dry air to break down your skin's natural protection. Your lotion gives up because it fights heat and lack of moisture at the same time. Skin gets stuck trying to stop burns while also saving moisture. That tight feeling might mean sun damage is adding to the problem. Did your skin react differently to sun after coming back?
