Picking up astrophotography changed my mind on searching for alien life

Ngl, everyone seems obsessed with finding aliens right now. But after getting into astrophotography, I realized how vast and empty space really is. Honestly, capturing deep sky objects showed me we might be looking in the wrong places. It's a skill that made me see we should focus on understanding our own solar system better first. I just don't buy the hype around big alien hunts yet.

Actually used to be all in on the alien search stuff. Seeing those long exposure shots of distant galaxies really puts the scale of empty space in your face. Now it just feels like we should focus on the rocks in our own backyard first.

Watched my buddy set up his first real telescope last fall, trying to capture the Orion Nebula. After hours in the cold, he just got this tiny, faint smudge of light. He said staring at that little blur, knowing how far away it was, made the whole idea of finding anyone else feel silly. Like, why are we yelling into a void that big and that quiet? He sold the gear a month later and got really into satellite tracking instead.

Wait, so you're telling me staring at a blurry space blob doesn't make you feel connected to cosmic neighbors? Guess we'll have to put the welcome mats away.
