Appreciation post: A kid at my local coffee shop changed how I think about AI tools

I was at Red Rooster Cafe in Portland yesterday and this teenager next to me was using ChatGPT to draft a college application essay. I asked him about it, expecting he was just copy pasting prompts. But he said he used it to 'argue back and forth' with the AI to sharpen his own points, not to write for him. That hit different because I always thought AI was for getting answers fast, but he showed me how it can help you think clearer by pushing back on your ideas. Has anyone else seen younger folks using AI in ways that surprised you?

Wow, my friend had a similar thing happen. He's a software guy and his neighbor's kid showed him how they use AI to brainstorm game ideas by talking back and forth with it.

Nah, seems like just using it to avoid doing the real work.

Wait, arguing with a chat bot actually helps?
