Hot take: My friend in Austin called my AI project 'just a fancy search engine'

We were at a coffee shop on South Congress last month, and I showed him a prototype that could summarize complex research papers. He looked at it for about ten seconds, shrugged, and said it was just pulling keywords and rearranging them. That one comment stuck with me and made me question if I was building something new or just a faster version of an old tool. Has anyone else had a moment where someone totally missed the point of your work?

Ugh, that's not just a search engine... it's actually understanding the text.

Right? @alicer53, it's wild how it gets the meaning now! I asked it to explain a joke from a show last week, and it actually broke down why it was funny based on the characters. It didn't just pull a summary from a wiki.

Was I the only one doubting it before?
