My old manager told me AI would never replace project scheduling

Back in 2018, my boss at a small construction firm told me AI was just hype and would never handle real schedules. I believed him because he had 30 years of experience. Fast forward to last year, and I tried a tool called Forecast for a 12 week renovation project. It caught three conflicts I missed in my usual spreadsheet. Now I use it alongside my old methods and save about 4 hours per week. Has anyone else had a boss give advice that aged poorly?

Not sure I agree completely, @holly709. I've seen these tools help catch mistakes but they still miss the human side of scheduling like when a sub contractor just doesn't show up or materials get delayed. AI can't predict that kind of real world chaos, so I'm not ready to hand over all the planning just yet.

Told me the same thing in 2019. Now I run everything through Buildertrend.

Oh wow, that's something I actually think about a lot. The thing nobody mentions is how these tools kind of force you to think differently about dependencies - like the AI might catch a conflict but it also makes you question why you scheduled things that way in the first place. So it's not just saving time, it's making you a better scheduler by showing you gaps in your own logic.
