Spent 4 hours wrestling with an AI image generator because of one dumb setting

I was trying to generate a simple product mockup for a client and kept getting these weird distorted backgrounds. After two hours of tweaking prompts and getting nowhere, I finally checked the guidance scale. It was set to 25 instead of the default 7, completely nuking the composition. Turns out the last update reset my preferences without telling me. Has anyone else hit a hidden default that wasted hours of their time?

Basically what cole_murphy said about "weird setting on" is true, but nobody's talking about how these updates don't tell you what they changed. I had the same thing happen with a different generator where the sampler got switched from DPM++ to Euler without any warning, and my images came out all grainy and soft for days. You'd think they'd pop up a note saying "your settings got reset" instead of just silently flipping stuff. At least you figured it out in 4 hours instead of going through a whole project like that.

Honestly, did you ever check if the software had some kind of "preserve settings" toggle buried in the options menu? I had a similar thing with a video editor once where every update would flip my export settings from H.264 to some weird codec that made my files huge. I spent like two days re-exporting stuff before I found a little checkbox that said "keep custom settings through updates." It was just sitting there in a submenu nobody ever looks at. These devs really need to stop treating user configs like disposable data.

Haven't you ever accidentally left a weird setting on before without noticing? In my experience these generators have way too many hidden options that can tank your results if they get flipped. Might be frustrating but at least now you know to double check the defaults after any update.
