A friend in my cooking group said air fryers are just for frozen food

We were at a potluck in Cincinnati last fall, and I brought my crispy air fryer chickpeas. My friend Mark took one look and said, 'Oh, you used the easy button. Those little ovens are just for reheating fries and nuggets.' He was dead serious. It stuck with me because I use mine almost daily for fresh veggies, salmon, and even small cakes. In my experience, that view really limits what the tool can do. Has anyone else had to defend cooking real food in their air fryer?

My air fryer roasted a whole head of cauliflower last Tuesday, and it was perfect. That comment about frozen food misses the whole point. It's basically a tiny, super fast convection oven. I've made everything from fresh green beans to pork chops in mine. It saves so much time and energy compared to heating my big oven. Limiting it to fries is such a waste of a good kitchen tool.

Why do people act like it's a one trick pony? It's just a small oven that works faster. I use mine for real food almost every day. Roasting veggies or reheating leftovers is where it really shines. Anyone stuck on frozen fries is missing out big time.

Man, that's just wrong. My air fryer is my main oven for a lot of stuff now. I do whole chicken breasts and roast fresh broccoli in it all the time. It gets things so much crispier than my regular oven ever did. Who just uses it for frozen food?
