Frozen fries come out way better if you soak them first

I wasted like 20 bucks on bad air fryer fries over 2 months. Then a friend told me to rinse frozen fries in cold water and pat them dry before tossing in oil. Has anyone else tried this trick or got a better hack for crispy fries?

Wait wait wait, cornstarch?! That's blowing my mind right now. I've been doing the rinse and dry thing for weeks and it's been a game changer but I never thought to add cornstarch on top of that. I feel like I've been eating good fries when I could have been eating GREAT fries this whole time. Does it really not get all weird and powdery? I'm gonna try this tonight with my crinkle cuts and see if they finally get that fast food level crunch.

That "rinse them in cold water" trick is honestly the best thing I ever tried... I used to just dump frozen fries straight into the air fryer and they always came out limp and sad. Soaking them for like 10 minutes and really drying them with paper towels makes a huge difference. Another thing I do is toss them in a tiny bit of cornstarch after drying before adding oil, it gives them that extra crunch. It's a pain but totally worth it for not wasting more money on soggy fries.
