Kept my grandma's old cast iron pan instead of buying a nonstick set, and my air fryer made me regret it for a month
When my grandma passed 3 years back I got her old cast iron skillet and a bundle of her recipe cards, and I had to pick between keeping the pan or buying one of those shiny nonstick sets everyone was raving about. I went with the cast iron, mostly out of guilt if I'm being honest. But for the first month in my little kitchen in Toledo I could not get the hang of it. Everything stuck, the seasoning was uneven, and I stopped cooking eggs altogether. Then my sister got me an air fryer for my birthday and it sat in the corner because I figured it was just a gimmick. One night I was too lazy to preheat the oven, threw some sliced potatoes and a little oil in the basket at 400 for about 18 minutes, and they came out better than anything I ever did in that pan. Now I use the air fryer for the crispy stuff and the cast iron just lives on the stove looking pretty. I still feel kinda bad about it. Anyone else have a piece of cookware they keep around just because of who it came from?
Does it count if the pan is hanging on the wall and not on the stove? My mom's old dutch oven is doing the same job in my place, just holding up the shelf.
