My air fryer fries are no longer a greasy mess

They used to come out oily and limp every time. Shaking the basket halfway and patting the potatoes dry first made all the difference.

That tip about patting the potatoes dry first is so true. Getting all that moisture off lets them crisp up way better instead of steaming. I even soak mine in cold water for about thirty minutes before drying, which pulls out more starch. Don't forget to preheat the air fryer too, it gives the fries a hot start. Once you nail these steps, you'll never go back to soggy fries.

Try a light oil spray after drying, not before soaking, for even crisping.

Oh man, @faithm70, your buddy is living the dream! I tried that soak trick once but got impatient and just threw wet potatoes in there. Ended up with something closer to steamed sadness than fries. Lucas is totally right about the drying part, it's a pain but it makes all the difference. I guess good fries are like most things, you can't skip the boring steps.
