My air fryer turned my fries into charcoal yesterday

I was so excited to try frozen fries in the air fryer. I set it for 20 minutes like the bag said, but they came out completely black. I guess every air fryer is different, and mine runs hotter. Next time, I will check halfway through. Lesson learned: always keep an eye on your food. At least the house did not smell like burnt oil afterwards.

Temperature is the real key here. My first batch looked like yours because I just went by time. Now I always start lower and check early, like at 10 minutes. Those bag instructions are just a rough guess for a machine that doesn't exist.

Actually, @phoenix_martin40 has it right, the temp matters way more than watching.

Frozen fries at 20 minutes, what temperature did you set your air fryer to?

My friend Lisa made frozen fries in her air fryer yesterday. She set it to 400 degrees for the full 20 minutes. They came out super crispy, almost burnt on the ends. She said maybe her model runs hot, but that was her experience.
