Showerthought: My air fryer made me feel good about using up leftovers
I had some sad looking broccoli and carrots sitting in my fridge for days. I chopped them up, gave them a light spray of oil, and air fried them until they were crispy. They tasted way better than I thought, like a proper snack. Maybe it's just me but I was proud I didn't let them go to waste. Now I'm thinking of more ways to use my air fryer to cut down on food trash.

Totally get that feeling. Honestly, it turns the whole chore of using up old food into something you actually look forward to. Ngl, I winced reading @beth147's story about the burnt rice because I've been there. The smell really does hang around forever. But once you get the hang of it, that crispy texture is so worth the risk. It's the best way to make sad veggies feel special again.

I saw a post on Reddit's frugal living sub about using air fryers for almost gone veggies. I mean, it's crazy how a little heat can turn them into something you actually want to eat. Maybe it's just me but I tried it with some old bell peppers and they came out so crispy. I heard some people even air fry leftover rice to make little crunchy bits. Idk, it feels good to not throw stuff away.

That part about air frying leftover rice... my friend did that and burned it to a crisp. She still won't let me forget the smell.

Burnt that stuff once and my kitchen smelled like a weird campfire for hours lol. The trick is to spread it super thin and check it every minute like a crazy person. Your friend is right about that smell sticking around, it's nasty. I still try it sometimes though because when it works you get these amazing little crunchy bits. Just gotta accept you might ruin a batch learning the timing.
