Stopped by a garage sale in Tampa and found an air fryer recipe book from 2018
I was digging through a pile of old cookbooks and this one had a section on making crispy chickpeas in the air fryer. The instructions were super basic, no preheating or anything. Has anyone else found an older recipe that actually worked better than the modern versions?

Ngl my first air fryer attempt was a disaster because I followed some influencer's 2023 recipe that required preheating for 10 minutes and flipping halfway through. Ended up with burnt outsides and raw middles. Maybe I should look for that old school no frills method instead of blaming my own cooking skills. Tbh simpler sounds perfect for someone like me who just wants crispy food without a science experiment.

So my buddy Mark found an old air fryer cookbook at a thrift store last year and he swears by the 2019 recipe for frozen french fries. No preheat, just dump them in and shake halfway, they come out way crispier than anything he's tried since. He said the newer recipes overcomplicate everything with temp adjustments and oil sprays and all that nonsense. Meanwhile I'm over here following the manual step by step and my fries come out sad half the time. Might have to swipe his thrift store find next time I'm over.

That 2018 recipe book sounds about right. I used to think new recipes were always better with air fryers, but my brother got one of the first models and the instructions said no preheating too. Honestly, those older recipes had a lot of trial and error built in, and sometimes simpler just works better.
