That preheat warning is no joke, found out the hard way at 3 AM

Last Tuesday I got up for a midnight snack and tossed frozen tots in without preheating. The basket was still cold from sitting out, so the tots came out soggy on one side and burnt on the other. I checked the manual after, it says preheat 3 minutes empty at 400, I never did that in 6 months. Now I keep a sticky note on the air fryer saying 'EMPTY BASKET, 400, 3 MIN'. Does anyone else skip preheat when they're in a hurry or is it just me being lazy? Thinking about getting a small kitchen timer to make it a habit, any recommendations?

So how long are you actually running the tots for? Because if they're coming out soggy on one side, that sounds less like a preheat problem and more like you're overcrowding the basket or pulling them too early.

Man, how long you actually leaving those tots in for? Soggy means they got steamed first.
