Burned my last batch so badly the smoke alarm held a grudge. My kitchen still smells like regret and cheap pork.

My oven's timer gets set for 9 minutes at 380 degrees, no matter what the package says. @owens.jenny, your smoke alarm story made me double-check my own settings last week (it's way too easy to zone out for that extra minute). That lower temp gives the fat time to render without the strips going straight from floppy to charcoal.

That hack is way too tempting, but @owens.jenny I feel you. My last attempt gave the smoke alarm a whole new core memory of failure.
