Borescope vs. the old mirror-and-flashlight trick, which one's actually worth the $400?
I spent 6 hours trying to track an oil leak on a Cessna 172 in the hangar, used my buddy's cheap borescope and found it in 20 minutes, but the old timers swear a mirror and a flashlight gets the job done just as fast once you know where to look, so is the fancy tool really worth it or are we just lazy?

That old mirror and flashlight trick works great if you already know the exact spot to look. But when you're chasing a leak that only shows up under certain conditions, crawling around with a mirror gets old real fast. I borrowed a cheap scope for a similar issue on my truck and found a cracked line buried behind the intake manifold in like ten minutes. If you work on different planes or vehicles all the time, the scope pays for itself just in saved frustration.
