Rant: that fancy ultrasonic tester we bought is a paperweight half the time
Went down to the Charlotte hangar last Tuesday to help with a flap actuator check. The new ultrasonic unit they pushed on us keeps giving false readings on any line running near the vent stack. Took me 45 minutes to verify with the old manual tap and listen method, which caught the real issue instantly. I get that digital tools are the future, but this thing has cost us more man-hours than it has saved since we got it in March. Anyone else stuck baby-sitting a $12k gadget that cant beat a decent mechanic's ears?
