Stop using WD-40 on aircraft control cables

I keep seeing guys at the hangar in Tucson spraying WD-40 on control cables to silence a squeak. That stuff dries out the cable and attracts dirt, so you end up replacing cables in 6 months instead of 6 years. When was the last time you actually read the maintenance manual for cable lubrication?

Read the manual?" I almost read one once, then I got distracted.

Read the manual? I once skimmed a car manual and ended up putting oil in the coolant.

Feel you on this one, it's rough watching bad habits wreck good cables.
