Swore by cheap torque wrenches until I snapped a stud on a 737 yesterday

I always figured the budget ones from the auto parts store were fine for anything. Been using the same $40 beam style for years. Then I snapped a bolt clean off on a flap actuator during a routine swap in Tulsa. A senior mechanic let me borrow his Snap-on and the difference in feel was night and day. That one mistake cost me 3 hours of extra labor and a serious headache. Anyone else have a tool they thought was fine until it bit them?

$12 harbor freight torque wrench. Snapped a bolt on a Cessna's engine mount. Had to borrow the shop's Snap-on the next day. Cheap tools cost you time, money and dignity.

I mean yeah that stinks but are we really gonna pretend a $12 torque wrench is meant for airplane work? That's more of a "buy once cry once" lesson than proof cheap tools are always junk.

Learned that lesson myself. @anthony763 has a solid point.
