That damn fuel injector on a 737 took me 8 hours when it should have been 2

I had this one injector on a 737-800 that just would not seat right. First hour I tried the usual tricks, tapping it in, lube, the whole deal. Nothing. Second hour I pulled it back out, cleaned the bore again, still no luck. By hour six I was ready to toss the whole engine, finally found a tiny burr inside the mounting hole from a previous install job. Had to file it down carefully and then it slid in like butter. Has anyone else dealt with hidden burrs that just ruin your whole shift?

That burr story sounds like a stretch honestly. Eight hours on a single injector? I've done plenty of 737 injectors and never had one take more than four. Filing the whole hole preemptively feels like overkill for a rare issue. Most of the time it's just dirt or a bad gasket causing the hang up, not some microscopic burr from a previous guy. Unless you're working on a high time engine that's been rebuilt three times, odds are low you'll hit that problem. I think people make it sound way worse than it really is.

I saw a thread on another forum where a guy found three different burrs inside the same hole on a used engine. They said it took them ten hours total to get the injector in because they kept missing one near the bottom. Usually I just run a small round file around the whole hole before I even try to seat anything, saves me from your exact situation. That burr from a previous install is a nightmare because you never expect it to be there.

File first sounds like it could cause more damage if you're not careful.
