Vent: Took me 8 hours to find a crack in a fuel line that was right in front of my face

Started chasing a pressure drop on a Cessna 172 at work. Checked filters, pumps, even pulled the carburetor before I noticed a hairline fracture on a 4 inch section of rubber hose near the firewall. Has anyone else spent a whole shift hunting a stupid simple problem?

Dude that is the most aggravating feeling. Eight hours of your life gone because a tiny crack decided to hide in plain sight. I've been there with a water pump on my truck that took me two days to figure out and it was just a loose clamp. Makes you want to just sit on the floor and stare at the ceiling for a while. At least you found it though, some people would have just thrown parts at it and given up. That kind of patience is what separates the real mechanics from the parts swappers.

Read a study once that said mechanics spend 30% of their time looking at stuff that's right in front of them.

Do you really think 8 hours chasing a tiny crack is patience though? Sounds more like stubbornness to me, especially if it was right there the whole time. Sometimes you gotta step back and look at the big picture instead of diving into every little thing first.
