Can we talk about how Instagram pushed that 'clean girl' aesthetic for 6 months straight?

I spent a full week trying to find makeup tutorials that weren't that sterile beige look and every single search result gave me the SAME 10 creators on repeat. Has anyone else noticed a platform just lock onto one vibe and refuse to show you anything else?

The algorithm is actually doing what it thinks is best based on everyone who engaged with that look for a week, and now it assumes that's the ONLY thing you want. It's a feedback loop where people who liked one video get that shoved at them forever and the people who hated it just leave the platform without their refusal counting anywhere. What nobody talks about is how the algorithm gets trained on the AVERAGE user's clicks, not the diverse tastes of the people who actually make the app interesting.

Ugh, I swear I read something about this the other day about how these platforms basically just copy whatever the loudest group of users does... and then it spirals from there. Like, I watched one video about vintage lamps once and now my whole feed is just brass fixtures and old glass, it's wild. The part about people quitting without their "no" counting is so true though, I never thought of it like that but it makes total sense. It's like the algorithm only hears the people who stay and yell, not the ones who just quietly close the app forever.
