Got roasted in a Facebook group for using clickbait thumbnails. Changed my whole approach.

I post guitar covers on YouTube, nothing crazy. A guy in a guitar forum flat out told me my thumbnails were manipulative and driving people away. He said red arrows and shocked faces look desperate. After I switched to just a clean shot of me playing with the song title in plain text, my click-through rate actually dropped for a week but then my watch time jumped by 40 percent. Has anyone else gotten feedback that killed their ego but made them better?
