Instagram's shadowban thing is wilder than I thought
I noticed one of my posts about thrift store finds got zero reach last week, so I looked into it. Turns out, using too many hashtags like 'thrifted' in a row can flag you as spammy and kill your visibility. Has anyone else figured out weird triggers that mess with their posts?

Wait... thrifted got flagged? That's wild. I used that hashtag on a post about an old Pyrex bowl I found at Goodwill and it literally got zero impressions after the first hour. I thought I was just losing my touch or something. Then I tried reposting without it and used 'vintage kitchen finds' instead and suddenly it popped off with like 200 likes. So dumb how the algorithm punishes common sense hashtags like that.

Actually they might have a point. The platform has to draw a line somewhere or every single thrift store and reseller would be using the same handful of tags to game the system. You saw the difference when you switched to a more specific tag like vintage kitchen finds. That tag probably has less competition and more actual people looking for that exact content. Thrifting turned into this massive trend during the pandemic and now every tag related to it is flooded with bots and drop shippers. The algorithm is just trying to keep the feed clean for real users.

@barbara_jenkins66 you're not alone, thrifted got me too. hashtag rules make zero sense.
