My neighbor thinks his cat video went viral because it's cute. It's not.
He posted a 7-second clip of his cat knocking over a plant last Tuesday. It got 2 million views because the first 3 seconds are a trending audio clip from a new movie trailer. The algorithm pushed it to people who watched the trailer, not cat lovers. He's telling everyone he's a pet content genius now. Has anyone else seen a post blow up for a totally wrong reason?

Honestly though, who cares why it went viral? A win is a win. If the algorithm picked it up because of the sound, that's still a smart move on his part. He used a trending audio and it worked, that's just how the platform works now. Let the man have his moment, he figured out the game.

But does it really matter why it got views? It's just a cat video...

Look at it this way, Olivia670. It matters because the whole "why" is what makes stuff blow up now. If we don't question why a simple cat video gets millions of views, we just accept whatever the app shoves at us. He did play the game right, but that doesn't mean the game itself is good. Understanding the trick helps you see past it next time.
