Showerthought: a video with 300 views got pushed to 2 million because of one reply, and I saw the exact moment it flipped
I was messing around on my phone in the dentist waiting room in Boise last Thursday and noticed this tiny woodworking clip sitting at 312 views. It had one comment from a guy with a big account that just said 'watch till the end' and within about 4 hours the thing was past 2 million. I kept refreshing because I could not believe how fast it moved, and the replies under that comment were all just people tagging friends. Turns out one engaged early comment can do more than any hashtag ever did. Has anyone else caught a post right at that tipping point and watched which comment set it off?

312 views to 2 million in 4 hours is wild but I totally buy it. That one comment with "watch till the end" works because it gives people a reason to stay past the first few seconds, and staying power is what the app actually rewards. I watched a clip of a guy fixing a lawnmower sit at like 800 views, then a big account dropped a reply just tagging his buddy, and the whole thing blew up by dinner. Reply count seems to matter more than likes, every tag pulls in a fresh set of eyes. The hashtags are basically dead weight at this point.
