A guy at the Columbus anime club told me to watch 3 episodes before judging a show, and I finally tried it on a 2019 series
Back in March, this guy Marcus at my local anime club in Columbus kept saying you can't judge a show off episode 1 alone, you gotta give it 3. I always thought that was just something people say to defend shows they like, so I never bothered. Then last month I almost quit a 2019 series after the pilot felt slow, but I stuck it out, and by episode 3 the whole tone flipped and I was hooked. How many episodes do you all give a show before you bail on it?
Tried the 3 episode thing for years and honestly it feels like a trap half the time. Some shows use those episodes to actually build something, sure, but plenty just drag you along until you're 12 episodes deep and too invested to quit. There's way too much stuff out there to sit through 90 minutes of something I'm not feeling. If a pilot is boring and nothing about it grabs me, I'm out.
