Got into a three hour debate about filler arcs with a stranger at a con

Last week at the Phoenix Comic Fest, I was waiting in line for a panel and started chatting with the guy behind me. We got onto the topic of Naruto filler and he said the G-8 arc in One Piece was the best filler ever made. I disagreed, saying the Bount arc in Bleach had more impact on character growth. This turned into a full, three hour back and forth while we inched forward in line, pulling up clips on our phones to prove points. Has anyone else had a filler debate get that out of hand?

It's like when a movie's deleted scene is better than the final cut.

Honestly the G-8 arc is solid because it feels like a real One Piece adventure, but the real filler hill I'll die on is the Kakashi Anbu arc in Naruto. That stuff added so much needed backstory for him and Team Ro, way more than any movie. It's weird when filler ends up being better than some canon material.

Tbh that Kakashi arc was better than most of the main story.

Man I remember watching that arc late one night thinking it was just gonna be some throwaway episodes, then next thing I know I'm actually tearing up during the scene where Kakashi talks about his dad. Really makes you wonder what other filler arcs out there are secretly better than half the canon stuff we sat through.
