Hid my anime collection for 3 years, until that roommate party incident
I always kept my blu rays and figures tucked away because people judge. But last month my roommate threw a party and someone wandered into my room. Next morning I found a sticky note on my shelf that said 'nice taste, the 90s OVA era is underrated.' Turned out my roommate's friend is a huge collector too. We spent 4 hours talking about old Toonami lineups and now we meet up every week to watch stuff. Has anyone else had their secret fandom accidentally expose them in a good way?
Small thing, but the note said 90s OVA era was underrated, right? That's a little off. The 80s is where the OVA really lived, stuff like Gunbuster, Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor. By the mid 90s the OVA market was already on its way out, and a lot of what people call 90s OVA is actually late 80s stuff that got dubbed later on Toonami. Not trying to nitpick your new friend, just that Toonami itself leaned way harder into 80s and early 90s shows than people remember. Anyway it worked out, so who cares.
