Hot take: that scene in episode 4 of Vinland Saga actually changed how I think about forgiveness
I was rewatching season 2 last weekend and when Einar tells Thorfinn that he's not required to hate someone who wronged him, it stopped me cold. My dad walked out on us when I was 12 and I've been carrying that anger for 10 years now. Idk, something about two fictional characters on a boat in the middle of nowhere made me realize I've been punishing myself more than him. Has anyone else had a random anime moment hit way harder than you expected?

That scene where Einar says he's not required to hate someone who wronged him" really got me too. I had a friend in high school who held this massive grudge against his older brother for years over something stupid, and then one day he just let it go and said it was like a weight lifted off his shoulders. He told me later that he realized the anger was eating him up inside way more than the original thing ever bothered him. It makes you wonder how much of our own pain we're choosing to carry around without even realizing it.

A buddy of mine from work went through something similar with his dad. They had a falling out over money years ago, and he swore he'd never speak to the old man again. But last summer, his mom got sick and he had to go home to help out. He told me that sitting with his dad in the hospital waiting room, he just looked over and realized the guy was just as scared and tired as he was. All that anger just kind of melted away in that moment. He said it was weird, but he actually felt lighter, like he had been carrying a heavy rock in his chest for ten years and finally set it down.
