I blew off 'filler episodes' for a decade, then a friend made me watch the Chimera Ant buildup in one sitting
I used to skip anything that smelled like a recap or a slow arc, and I was super smug about it. Last weekend my buddy in Sacramento sat me down and we watched about 14 episodes in a row of pure setup, no big fights. Around episode 5 I wanted to bail, but by episode 9 I was weirdly hooked on the pacing. Now I'm wondering if I skipped past whole arcs in other shows that were actually doing something. Has anyone else had a slow arc flip on them like this, and which one?

Did the same thing with the first half of Steins;Gate and ended up eating my words hard? Thought it was boring slice of life fluff, then the payoff hit and I realized every dumb little detail was a setup.
