I thought the hype around 'Odd Taxi' was just for the art style

I kept seeing people talk about it last year but figured it was just another quirky show. I finally watched the first episode a couple weeks ago and got totally hooked by the dialogue, it's so sharp and the mystery builds fast. The whole thing with the missing girl and the walrus driver actually having depth convinced me it was legit. Has anyone else had a show they were totally wrong about at first glance?

What made you finally give it a shot?

Honestly phoenix_burns28, "give it a shot" makes it sound like a good idea. I did the opposite. I looked at all the hype and decided not to jump in. Everyone was talking about it like it was a sure thing, and that's usually when you should be careful. It felt more like following a crowd than making a smart choice. So my reason was basically seeing everyone else get excited and choosing to sit it out.

That's a really interesting take from brooke_taylor, but I see it the other way. Sometimes a crowd is onto something good, and missing out just to be different feels like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Phoenix_burns28 had the right idea by asking what changed her mind, because giving a hyped show one episode is a pretty low risk. With Odd Taxi, the hype was totally about the writing and story, not just the look, so skipping it would have been my loss. What's a show you were glad you didn't skip even though everyone was talking about it?
