Just realized I've been watching anime wrong for 10 years
I was at a friend's place last Saturday and he put on an episode of Cowboy Bebop. I mentioned I usually skip the opening credits to save time. He looked at me like I was crazy and said "the music and visuals set the mood for the whole show." So I watched the next episode with the intro and the ending credits too. Now I'm going back through my whole watchlist to see what I missed. Has anyone else been burned by skipping intros and regretted it later?

Dude the "music and visuals set the mood" thing is so real. I used to skip the intro on Samurai Champloo for like 3 years until my buddy caught me doing it and practically yelled at me. Now I just let em play every time.

Ha yeah @the_oliver your buddy did you a solid. I was the same way with Cowboy Bebop's intro for like a year, just skipping straight to the episode every time. Then one day I actually let Tank! play through and I was like "wait this slaps way harder than I remembered." Now I feel like a total idiot for missing out on that seamless mood setup. But honestly intro skippers are a different breed, like do you not want to fully immerse yourself in the vibe before a show? That's on you.

Figured this out a while back myself. It's not just intros though, it's this whole thing where we think we're saving time by rushing past the little things that actually make an experience good. People do it with music albums too, they skip right to the hits without letting the opening tracks set up the flow. Then they wonder why the whole thing doesn't hit the same. It's the same with those loading screens in video games that have cool art and music, everyone just stares at their phone instead of soaking it in. We train ourselves to be in a hurry even when there's no reason to be.
