Paper ballots beat Discord polls for my anime club of 32

Last month our club of 32 people tried using a Discord poll to pick the next series we watch together. It failed hard, 14 people voted and half of them picked shows we already watched twice. I spent 3 hours making a ranked choice spreadsheet but nobody understood it and we argued for an hour about what counts as a tie. So last Tuesday I printed paper ballots and handed them out at the meetup, everyone wrote their top 3 choices and we tallied them in 10 minutes. Turnout jumped to 27 votes and we finally landed on Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. Has anyone else had better luck with low tech solutions for group decisions in their community?
