Rant: That time I argued about sub vs dub at a con and it got way too real
So I was at Anime Expo last year waiting in line for the Crunchyroll panel. This dude behind me starts going off about how dubs are trash and subs are the only way to watch. I told him I actually prefer dubs for shows like Cowboy Bebop and FMA because the voice acting is iconic. He literally laughed and said I wasn't a real fan. We went back and forth for like 20 minutes until his friend pulled him away. But it got me thinking - why do people get so nasty about this? Is it just gatekeeping or is there something else going on? Has anyone else had a debate like this turn into a full on argument?

Well, I guess my fake fan card is in the mail along with my old DVD of Bebop.

ok but like... is it really gatekeeping to say bebop is overrated? i mean i get the nostalgia factor but the ending is legit confusing and half the episodes are just spike being a brooding mess. don't get me wrong the animation holds up but the actual plot feels like they were just making it up as they went along. cowboy bebop is like the 'cool' anime everyone says they love but when you ask them what actually happens they just say "space jazz" and shrug.
