Spent $60 on a Blu-ray box set that was just upscaled garbage
Bought the 'Classic Mecha Collection' release last month. The video quality is awful, just a cheap digital upscale from a 480p master. The company didn't even try to clean up the film grain or fix the colors. Has anyone else been burned by these 'remastered' anime releases that are just cash grabs?

Check the disc for any mention of a new film transfer?

Yeah, @owens.blair has the right idea to check the box. I've learned to look for the words "new HD transfer" or "remastered from the original film elements" now. If it just says "digitally restored" or something vague, it's a bad sign. My copy of "Galaxy Drifter" had the same problem, just a blurry mess with crushed blacks. These companies know fans will buy anything with a fancy new cover. It makes me want to just stick with my old DVDs sometimes.

Man I actually have the opposite problem! My old DVDs look terrible on my new TV. I'll take a fuzzy HD upgrade over a super crisp picture of a VHS tape any day.
