Spent a week arguing with a guy online who said 'Attack on Titan' was just a dumb action show. He finally watched the whole thing and sent me a 3 paragraph apology.

Yeah, that "full weight of the story" thing is so real. I wrote the show off for years as just dumb action. Then I saw a spoiler for the basement and had to check it out. I mean, I went from mocking it to finishing three seasons in a week. It totally rewires your brain.

Saw a video essay once that broke down how the show hides its real themes under all that action at first. It tricks people into thinking it's just about fighting giants, then slowly shows the politics and the cycle of hate. That guy probably got hit with the full weight of the story all at once in the later seasons. It's the kind of story that makes you feel bad for rooting for certain characters early on. No wonder he came back with a full apology, that show changes how you see it.
