That $40 Blu-ray box set with missing subtitles burned me hard
Ordered a complete series set from an online seller two months ago, looked legit with the shrink wrap and all. Popped in disc one, and half the episodes had no English subs, just raw Japanese audio with no option. Cost me $40 plus shipping from a place in Sacramento. Tried contacting the seller, got a canned reply that basically said 'too bad, no returns on opened media.' Should have read the fine print about region coding and fan releases. Anyone else get tricked by these discount anime bundles on third party sites?
Saw the same thing happen to a guy at a flea market in Fresno last month, paid $25 for a "complete" set that turned out to be bootlegs with Korean subs burned in. The shrink wrap and glossy box are easy to fake now, you can buy a roll of that film online for like ten bucks. It's the same scam as those fake designer bags, the wrapper fools you before you even open it. At least with a store you can walk back in and complain, online sellers just hide behind policy.
