TIL watching dub first actually made sub better for me

Everyone says subs are the only way, but I started with the dubbed version of FMA Brotherhood last month and it got me hooked. When I went back for a rewatch with subs, I noticed way more details in the voice acting and timing because I already knew the story beats. It took me about 3 episodes to adjust, but the emotional hits landed harder the second time. I think the whole 'subs or nothing' gatekeeping keeps newcomers from getting into anime at all. Has anyone else started with dubs and then flipped to subs later, or is my experience just weird?
