Vent: I tried watching a new anime while scrolling my phone versus giving it my full attention.
The difference was night and day. With 'Spy x Family', I missed half the visual gags and Anya's hilarious faces when I was distracted. Who else has ruined a first watch by not just putting the phone down?

Yeah, missing Anya's faces is the perfect example. I did the same thing with a comedy movie and just got totally lost on the plot. Now I make a point to just shut the laptop if I'm not really watching.

Half the jokes are in the actor's reactions.

Gotta say I disagree a bit here. I read this article from some film critic that talked about how physical comedy works best when you actually see the buildup in the background. Like Jim Carrey's twitchy eyes before he says something dumb. You miss that if you're only half watching. I tried that with a Marvel movie once and had no clue why the joke landed. Context matters for timing. You need to see the awkward pause before the punchline hits.

Wait, I'm the total opposite though. I've had some of my best movie moments when I was only half paying attention. Like last week, I was fixing my bike and had this weird sci-fi thing on in the background. I looked up at just the right second to see this spaceship do a slow, sad flip into a black hole. No idea what led to it, but that single image stuck with me more than any plot. Sometimes your brain just catches the good bit.
