Vent: My local anime club's screening of the finale got ruined by one guy's spoiler meltdown

Went to the monthly meetup at the library in Portland last Thursday. We were 10 minutes into the final episode of a big series. This dude in the back yells out 'OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE HE DIES' like it was nothing. Half the room had read the manga. The other half flipped out. We paused the screening and had a 20 minute debate about spoiler etiquette. Now the organizer makes everyone sign a no-spoiler pledge before we even start. Has anyone else had a club get wrecked by something like this?

Honestly that dude sounds like a total tool lol. We had something similar at our club in Denver where this guy blurts out the villain's true identity during episode 3 of a 50 episode series. Took weeks for the mood to recover and we still joke about him being 'that guy' anytime someone pulls out a phone. The pledge thing feels overkill but honestly I get why they did it, some people just can't control themselves.

Dude you're totally right and I gotta admit I used to be the guy who thought pledges were stupid. Like who cares it's just a show right? But after my buddy spoiled the ending of a mystery novel I was literally on chapter 2 of I get it now. That feeling of having something ruined for you just sucks and it sticks with you. I still haven't forgiven him honestly. So yeah I used to roll my eyes at these rules but now I'm like sign me up for the pledge if it means nobody ruins anything else for me.
