Why does everyone mix up the names in that old mecha show?

I keep seeing people call the main robot in 'Gurren Lagann' just 'Gurren', but the whole point is that Gurren and Lagann are two separate machines that combine. I noticed this in three different forum threads this week, and it bugs me because the name shows how teamwork is the show's big idea. Has anyone else seen this mistake a lot, or is it just me?

Actually, I think most fans get it right!

Most fans get it right" misses how groupthink works. Once a popular opinion takes over a fandom, people just repeat it without really thinking. The loudest voices set the trend, and everyone else falls in line. It looks like most people agree, but really they're just copying what they heard.

Most fans get it right" is a wild take. Hard disagree.

Yeah, "most fans get it right" is one of those things that sounds nice but I've seen it totally not hold up. I was deep into a fanbase for a show a few years back, and there was this one character everyone hated at first. People just repeated the same complaints over and over without thinking, so it looked like the whole fandom agreed. But after a while a few people started talking about why they actually liked that character, and boom, the whole opinion shifted. Now that character is one of the most popular. It wasn't that the fans got it right the first time, it's that everyone was just following what the loudest people said.
